Your first time?

For many of my clients, I’m the first writer or creative they’ve worked with one on one.

I work with a lot of solopreneurs and first-time founders on from-scratch branding, tone of voice development, and ghostwriting. My clients are smart people working on smart solutions to real problems.

I see what a leap of faith this is for them. The uncertainty in the eyes, the questioning, the “do I dare to believe?” To put their vision—the definition of their business—into words on paper. To kick the tires, test their assumptions, see if the message lands outside their head. It's a lot, and it's confronting.

The process to uncover the essence of the proposition, the benefits, the why, the who actually cares, how is it different, often uncovers questions that still need to be asked (normal) and the doubt of being on the right track (answer is usually yes).

This casts me in the role of therapist and cheerleader (I give a hell of a pep talk, Knute Rockne could take some notes). It’s one of the things I enjoy most about these collaborations and why clients often become long-time friends.

So if you've been circling this decision—I get why.

Ask yourself this: if you know you need a writer but have yet to follow through, think about what’s holding you, and your business, back. Is it fear rooted in trust issues? Is it purely financial? Is it not wanting to give up control?
